4. Remove the valve spring retainer (2) and the valve
spring (3); then remove the valve (4).
5. Remove the oil seal with a needle-nose pliers; then
remove the valve spring seat.
6. Check the gasket surface of the cylinder head for dis-
tortion using a straightedge and feeler gauge. Take
clearance readings at several places. If any clearance
reading exceeds the service limit specifications,
replace the cylinder head with a new one.

Measuring Valve Stem Runout
1. Support each valve stem end with the V Blocks (p/n
0644-022); then check the valve stem runout using a
dial indicator.

2. Maximum runout must not exceed specifications.
Measuring Valve Stem
Outside Diameter
1. Using a micrometer, measure the valve stem outside
diameter.

2. Acceptable diameter range (intake valve) must be
within specifications.
3. Acceptable diameter range (exhaust valve) must be
within specifications.
Measuring Valve Face/Seat Width
1. Using a micrometer, measure the width of the valve
face.
