Step 3. Dress the 2BASE‐TL cable to the right of the HN4000 and through the lower cable‐
guide slot in the right‐side mounting bracket.
Step 4. Terminate other end of cable per customer requirements.

4.3.1 Outside Plant 2BASE-TL Primary Protectors

The HN4000 is expected to be installed with primary protectors on the outside plant 2BASE-TL copper
pairs. The primary protectors should have a voltage limiting capability of approximately 600V at
1000V/µs.
Caution
Hatteras Networks recommends a primary protector with characteristics similar to the Bourns
455HS-BC as shown in the following table. In addition to its protection capabilities, the 455HS-BC is
well balanced for use in 2BASE-TL applications.
