2.6.1 Connecting a Chassis Ground Cable

Take the following steps to connect a ground cable from the HN4000 chassis to an earth
ground.
The HN4000 must be permanently grounded to a Common Bonding Network (CBN).
Grounding of the HN4000 should be in compliance with local practices and must be to a protective
earth ground (clean, bare-metal).
Caution
The grounding connection must be made before copper-pair connections are made to the
device's 2BASE-TL connectors.
Step 1. Measure to determine the length of grounding cable required to run from the chassis'
ground lug (Figure

HN4000
Step  2. Cut a length of 10 ‐ 14 AWG (2.6 ‐ 1.6 mm) stranded/insulated wire to that length.
Your local electrical code may require that a specific color (or colors) be used for the

protective-earth ground wire.
Step  3. Remove the two 3/8 inch hex nuts from the ground lug's grounding studs and remove
the ground lug.
Step  4. Strip one end of the cable (approximately 3/8" (1.0 cm)) to fit into the ground lug.
Step  5. Using a crimping tool, crimp the HN4000 ground lug to the cable.
Step  6. Replace the ground lug onto the grounding studs and fasten with the two 3/8 inch
hex nuts. Tighten the hex nuts to 20 ‐ 27 in‐lbs (2.3 ‐ 3.0 Nm).
Step  7. Dress the cable through a cable‐guide slot in the chassis' right‐hand bracket.
Step  8. Terminate the unterminated end of the grounding cable in compliance with local
practices and fasten it to the grounding point on the fuse/breaker panel.
