1.1

General

This document provides the procedures for installing the Hatteras Networks™ HN4000 Metro
Ethernet Copper Access™ switch. There are two switch models in the HN4000 product line —
the HN4000i and the HN4000e (Figure

When this document uses the term HN4000, the discussion applies to both switch models — the

1.1.1 Objectives

This document is for installation technicians who will install an HN4000 switch at a Central
Office (CO) or at an Outside Plant (OSP) location that has a closed‐loop/filtered cooling system
(such as a Controlled Environment Vault (CEV) or Remote Terminal (RT))
Installation of the HN4000 follows the steps outlined below:
❒ Mount the HN4000 equipment in a rack
❒ Install the power and ground cables
❒ Connect network cables
❒ Turn on power
❒ Verify proper operation of the HN4000
