Service conditions

The protection device is designed for installation in normal relay rooms and plants so that electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) is ensured if installation is done properly.
We also recommend:
• All contacts and relays that operate in the same cubicle, cabinet, or relay panel as the numerical protective
device should always be equipped with proper surge suppression components.
• For substations with operating voltages of 100 kV and higher, all external cables should be shielded with a
conductive shield grounded at both ends. No special measures are normally required in a medium-voltage
substation.
• Do not withdraw or insert individual modules or boards while the protective device is energized. When han-
dling modules outside the case, the standards for components sensitive to electrostatic discharge (Electro-
statically Sensitive Devices) must be observed. They are not endangered inside the case.
• Only temperature sensors with 3-wire connection and shielded connection cables may be connected.
Connect the cable shield as short as possible at the terminal D-14 designed for this purpose.
