ATTENTION
 Carbonless paper contains chemical substances that may damage the brake rollers or other
rollers (such as the pick roller) when documents are fed. Pay attention to the following:
 Cleaning
If paper jams occur frequently, clean the brake rollers and pick roller. For details about
cleaning, refer to
 Replacing parts
The service life of the brake rollers and pick roller may be shortened when compared to
scanning only wood containing paper documents.
 When wood containing paper documents are scanned, the life of the brake rollers and pick
roller may be shortened compared with the case where woodfree paper documents are
scanned.
 When glossy paper documents, such as photographs, are scanned, the surface of the
documents may be damaged.
 When scanning plastic cards, be aware of the following:
 Use plastic cards that meet the specifications below.
Plastic cards that comply with the ISO7810 ID-1 type
Size: 85.6 × 53.98 mm
Thickness: 0.76 mm or less
Material: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyvinyl chloride acetate (PVCA)
Before scanning, check that the plastic cards can be fed through the scanner.
 Plastic cards that are hard and not easy to bend may not be fed smoothly.
 If the surface of the card is dirty with grease, such as fingerprints, wipe off before
scanning.
 When you scan shiny plastic cards, the image may be partially lighter or darker than the
original. Example: a gold credit card
 When you scan embossed cards, face the embossed side down and load them in a
landscape orientation.
 Scanning thick documents such as a plastic card incorrectly detects it as a multifeed
error. To avoid this, disable the intelligent multifeed detection mode or the multifeed
detection.
HINT
 When scanning semi-transparent documents, set the scan [Brightness] to a lighter level to
avoid image bleed through.
 Clean the rollers as frequently as possible when you scan documents written in pencil,
because pencil traces may smudge other documents. Unclean rollers may also cause a
paper feed error.
For details about cleaning, refer to
