The cleaning process takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes and is com‐
pleted when no further vapour emerges from the outlet hose.
Concluding operations
– Switch off the ultrasonic A/C cleaner -VAS 6189- .
– Open the vehicle doors and vent the vehicle for at least 10
minutes.
– Remove the ultrasonic A/C cleaner -VAS 6189- from the ve‐
hicle and clean it in line with the appropriate operating instruc‐
tions.
– Switch off ignition.
5.5 Removing and installing air quality sen‐
sor -G238-
Note
The air quality sensor -G238- is a highly sensitive electronic

component which could be destroyed by direct exposure to
solvents, fuels and certain chemical compounds (contamina‐
tion can ingress by way of area -A- for example).
For this reason, never fit sensors which have been kept in tool
♦
chests or the like.
Following removal, do not set down the sensor in areas where
♦
it could come into contact with solvents, fuels or certain chem‐
ical compounds (liquids or vapours).
There are different housings for and versions of the air quality
♦
sensor -G238- . Attention is therefore to be paid to the correct
assignment ⇒ Electronic parts catalogue . The mode of op‐
eration of the air quality sensor -G238- is however essentially
the same for all versions.
5.5.1 Removing and installing
– Remove the plenum chamber cover on the right.
– Unplug the connector -A- from the sensor.
– Turn the sensor through 90° and lift the sensor -B- out of the
mount.
Contact assignment in connector -A-
1 - Positive (terminal „15")
2 - Negative (terminal „31")
3 - Signal wire to front operating and display unit, Climatronic
control unit -J255- ; the measured value is indicated in the meas‐
ured value block of the front operating and display unit, Clima‐
tronic control unit -J255- . The square-wave signal cannot be
evaluated using workshop equipment ⇒ "Guided fault-finding"
function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system
