TERMS / ICONS GLOSSARY

Composite Video - A format of an analog television (picture only) signal before it is combined with a
sound signal.
DHCP - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A network application protocol used by devices to
obtain configuration into for operation in an internet protocol network. Also a source of IP addresses.
DSL - Internet connection that can be used at the same time and on the same telephone line with a
regular telephone.
Dynamic IP Address - IP address used when a computer's IP address is assigned automatically and
can change.
Fps - Frames per second.
H.264 - The latest block-oriented motion-compensation-based codec standard for video compression.
IP- Internet Protocol. A set of rules used for communicating data across a packet-switched
internetwork) for communication between its nodes
IP Address - Internet Protocol Address. A numerical identification and logical address that is
assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing Internet Protocol (IP).
LAN - Local area network. A computer area that is limited to a particular space or area.
NTSC - The analog television system that is used in most of the Americas, Japan, South Korea,
Taiwan, Burma, and some Pacific island nations and territories. Also the name of U.S.
standardization body that adopted the National Television System Committee broadcast standard.
PAL - Phase Alternating Line. An analogue television encoding system set in broadcast television
systems in large parts of the world..
PIP - Picture in Picture.
PPP - Point-to-Point Protocol. A data link protocol commonly used to establish a direct connection
between two networking nodes. It can provide connection authentication, transmission encryption
privacy, and compression.
PPPoE - Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. A network protocol for encapsulating Point-to-Point
Protocol frames inside Ethernet frames.
PTZF - Pan, tilt, zoom, focus.
S-Video - Analog video signal that carries the video data as two separate signals: luminance &
chroma. S-Video carries standard definition video but does not carry audio on the same cable.
Spot Monitor - Allows putting of cameras' views in sequence of however order.
Static IP Address - IP address used when a computer is configured to use the same IP address each
time it powers up.
VGA - Video Graphics Array. The lowest common denominator that all PC graphics hardware
supports. Allows the computer to project onto the monitor
WAN - Wide area network. A computer area that covers a broad area.
