About Greetings

UNIVERGE UM8000 U
SER
The greetings that are available in the messaging system include:
Presence Greetings. Presence Greetings are configured by your System Administrator. If
configured, they allow you to select a greeting based on a particular activity, such as In a Meeting, Out
to Lunch, or On Vacation. In some cases, your system administrator may provide a desktop application
called NEC UC Desktop Suite to provide additional presence functionality, such as greetings
automation.
NOTE
The greetings you have available will vary, depending on how your system
administrator configures your mailbox. Also, if your system is configured to
use UC Desktop Suite, you will be able to set expiration times for certain
greetings from your desktop.
Busy Greeting. The Busy Greeting is played when you are on your phone. You must enable the
Busy Greeting. Otherwise, callers will not be aware that you are on the phone and will hear the current
Presence Greeting.
Alternate Greeting. When enabled, the Alternate Greeting overrides all other greetings until it
is disabled. It will play regardless of the particular presence greeting selection or Busy Greeting.
You can record your own greeting for any system greeting. You can enable or disable the greetings using
the phone or the Mobile Web Mailbox Manager.
NOTE
Your greetings should include references to any available one-key dial
options that your system manager has enabled for you. This may include
transfer to a fax box, park & page, and other call routing information.

Using the System Default Greetings

By default, UM8000 ships with a single presence greeting enabled, the Standard Greeting. Like all other
greetings, the Standard Greeting comes with a system recording which can be replaced by a personalized
recording. The Standard Greeting is special because it can be personalized during first time enrolment, as
described below.
The messaging system plays the default greetings when you do not record personalized greetings.
For example:
The Standard Greeting plays: "The person you are trying to reach is not available right now."
The Busy Greeting plays: "The person you are trying to reach is on the phone now."
The Alternate Greeting plays: "The person you are trying to reach is out today."
During enrollment, you are asked to record your own Standard Greeting. When your phone is unanswered
the system plays the default Standard Greeting that comes with the system if you do not record a
personalized greeting.

Using System Greetings with Recorded Names

When you record your name, but do not record personalized greetings, the messaging system plays
greetings that include your recorded name.
For example, for Paul Green:
The Standard Greeting plays: "Paul Green is not available right now."
The Busy Greeting plays: "Paul Green is on the phone now."
The Alternate Greeting plays: "Paul Green is out today."
