Appendix A: If This Is Your First Digital Console
Technological developments of recent years have allowed the use of double-speed (2fs) sample rates of 88.2 and
96 kHz, thus yielding an even broader frequency response in the final signal. The DMX-R100 is capable of
operating at both single- and double-speed sample rates, although some functionality is reduced when using
double-speed rates. (See the "Operating The DMX-R100 at 2fs" Appendix in this guidebook for more infor-
mation.)
The second important factor in ADC and DAC conversion is called bit resolution. This is a description of how
long the digital "words" are that are used to represent the signal. The longer the word, the greater the amount
of variation allowed, kind of like the difference between viewing a black-and-white image with greater degrees of
gray scales. (See Figure 4)
