USING THE OUTSTATION TEST SET

The Outstation Test Set (part number 667/1/22657/000) is supplied with six cable
forms (part number 667/1/22658/000 to /005). The Outstation Test Set is designed
to simulate an OTU (OTU Mode) or traffic control equipment (Controller Mode) and
is connected into the system via special test cables.
Note: THE SPECIAL TEST CABLES MUST ALWAYS BE USED WHEN
CONNECTING THE OTS TO EITHER AN OTU OR TRAFFIC CONTROL
EQUIPMENT

5.2.1 Facilities

All controls, connectors and indicators are mounted on the front panel.
5.2.1.1 Interconnections
Figure 29 shows the Outstation Test Set Front Panel. For operation in the OTU
mode (i.e. to simulate an OTU) the front panel D-type plugs provide the
connections to the traffic control equipment. For operation in the controller mode
(i.e. to simulate traffic control equipment) the front panel D-type sockets provide
the connections to the OTU.
Six OTS Test Cables are supplied for connecting to the equipment under test. Two
pairs of D-type connectors mounted on the front panel provide for connections to
either the OTU or the traffic control equipment. Figure 33 shows how to connect
the Outstation Test Set to an OTU or controller.
Note that there are two cables in each case. The reason for this is that the test set
has 16 switches to set outputs and 16 LEDs to display inputs, whereas the actual
OTU has 16 outputs and 32 inputs. In controller mode cables 667/1/22658/000
and /001 when connected, both allow all 16 OTU outputs to be displayed on the
LEDs. However the /000 variant of the cable also allows OTU inputs 1-16 to be
controlled using the OTS switches, whereas the /001 variant of the cable allows
OTU inputs 17-32 to be controlled.
In OTU mode cables 667/1/22658/000 and /001 when connected, both allow the
setting of all 16 OTU outputs to be simulated using the OTS switches. These
cables are connected using two pairs of adaptors, fitted at each end. The
connection to the D-type plugs on the OTS is made using cables 667/1/22658/002
and 003 while the connection to the OTU input/output cable is made using cables
667/1/22658/004 and 005. These adaptors fit on the ends of the cableforms
667/1/22658/000 and 001, dependent on which one is being used. The /000
variant of the cable also allows OTU inputs 1-16 to be displayed on the OTS
LEDs, whereas the /001 variant of the cable allows OTU inputs 17-32 to be
displayed.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD CONNECTIONS BE MADE TO BOTH
OTU AND TRAFFIC CONTROL EQUIPMENT SIMULTANEOUSLY.
