SECTION 17—INSTALLING LOW SHEAR RECLINER
Remove Existing Recliner Back from Solara Wheelchair
Remove Seating System/Back Upholstery
1.
Perform one of the following:
A. Remove the seating system from the wheelchair. Refer to the seating system owner's manual.
B. Remove the back upholstery from the wheelchair. Refer to the Solara owner's manual.
Remove the Stroller Handle
1.
Remove the mounting screw that secures the trigger release lever to the stroller handle.
NOTE: There may be a tie wrap that secures the gas cylinder cable to the stroller handle.
2.
If so equipped, cut the tie wrap that secures the gas cylinder cable to the stroller handle.
3.
Remove the two mounting screws and locknuts that secure stroller handle to the existing back canes.
4.
Remove the stroller handle and set aside.

Remove Existing Recliner Back Canes
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 17.2 on page 147.
1.
Perform one of the following:
A. Chairs equipped with T‐ arms ‐ Remove the two mounting screws, four washers, and locknuts that secure the
backrest brackets and uniwasher to the seat rail. Repeat for remaining back cane.
B. Chairs equipped with non flip back arms ‐ Remove the two mounting screws, four washers, rear arm socket bracket,
and locknuts that secure the backrest brackets and uniwasher to the seat rail. Repeat for remaining back cane.
2.
Remove the back assembly from the wheelchair frame.
NOTE: Before removing the uniwashers, note the position of the uniwashers on the seat rails to ensure obtaining correct seat depth when
installing the low shear recliner back.
3.
Remove the existing uniwashers from the seat rails.
