Chapter 3
Installation
The Motorola STU 111/SECTEL has been carefully inspected and
packaged to ensure optimum performance. As with any piece of
electronic equipment, proper installation and knowledge of
operating procedures is essential before the equipment can be
used.
After performing the steps outlined in this chapter, the STU Ill/
SECTEL will operate as a normal telephone, but requires a crypto
fill (see Chapter 4, Security Considerations and Procedures) to be
able to transmit or receive secure voice or data.
Take a few moments to read through the following material for
instructions on proper installation and an introduction to the
features of the Motorola STU 111/SECTEL.

The materials used to pack the STU 111/SECTEL were specifically
designed and selected to withstand shipping stresses. Please be
sure to save all packing materials so that the terminal may be
repacked. This may prevent damage during subsequent moves or
shipping.
The STU 111/SECTEL shipping package contains the following
items (Figure 3- 1 ):
• STU 111/SECTEL
• Handset
• 6-foot handset coiled cord
15-foot telephone line cord (6-conductor)
• Power converter
• 8-foot power converter line cord
• Blank KSD-64A Crypto Ignition Key (CIK)
• STU 111/SECTEL User's Guide
