portion of the message display shows all letters, numbers, and
symbols necessary for effective user interaction.
Annunciators
The annunciators, located on either side of the alphanumeric
portion of the message display, provide a constant indication of
the terminal's current operating mode and dialing parameters. The
following is a brief description of each annunciator.
SECURE
CLEAR
MUTE
VOICE
DATA
TONE
PULSE
PRGM

HD
Indicates the terminal is operating in the secure
mode.
Indicates the terminal is operating in the clear
mode.
Indicates the handset microphone has been
disabled. This enables the user to hear the other
party, but prevents the other party from
overhearing the user's conversation.
Indicates the terminal is operating in the voice
mode.
Indicates the terminal is operating in the data
mode. The data mode can only be accessed and
used when the terminal is operating in secure
mode.
Indicates the terminal will send tone signals when
phone numbers are dialed.
Indicates the terminal will send pulse signals when
phone numbers are dialed.
Indicates the terminal is operating in the program
mode.
Indicates the terminal is operating at 2400 bps
when in the secure mode.
Indicates the terminal will operate in half duplex
when in secure mode. The person speaking will
have a "T" (transmit) on the message display,
while the listener has an "R" (receive) on the
message display.
If
the message display does not
show a "T" or an "R" the line is idle and either
party may begin speaking.
