Lift the handset when the STU 111/SECTEL rings. The STU Ill/
SECTEL will take approximately 15 seconds to enter the
secure mode. During this time, both terminals are exchanging
and validating authorization information to determine if you
AND the person you are talking with have authorized access
to the secure mode. While this is occurring, both handsets are
disabled.
NOTE
If the terminal classifications allow for a secure call, but do not match, the
terminals will default to the highest common classification level of the two
terminals.

When the secure mode is established (SECURE annunciator
on), the top line of the message display will show the
classification level. The bottom line of the message display
automatically scrolls through the authentication, and CIM (if
any).
NOTE
If desired, you may use the-I
S-C-R-OL-L~I
key to manually review the
authentication, ID, and CIM (if any).
NOTE
Be sure to note the level of security clearance being shown on the message
display. This message will remain in view while the STU 111/SECTEL is in the
secure mode. Its purpose is to inform you of the highest level of classified
information that may be discussed over the terminal and provide a constant
security reminder during the conversation.

If voice quality suddenly degrades (loss of synchronization), press
