When the setting shown on the message display matches the
settings you have selected on your computer, press
I

The STU 111/SECTEL will store the setting and exit the
program mode.
If you have set the communication protocols for your computer
and STU 111/SECTEL, you are ready to use your equipment to
transmit secure data. Refer to Chapter 5, Voice Communication,
for information on placing clear calls and going secure. Use the
following procedure to establish a computer link:

Establish a clear call with the person who will be sending/
receiving the data.
@Tell the person you want to establish a computer link and
give your current communication protocol settings. These
settings must be the same for both computers and STU Ill's.
When both computers are ready to send/receive data, press

Ensure the DAT A annunicator appears.

to establish the secure data mode.
After a few seconds, your STU 111/SECTEL will respond in
one of the following ways:
• If
all connections and protocol settings are correct, the
message display annunciator DAT A will be on with no
change in the information displayed. You are now ready to
send or receive data files. Skip to step 4 of this procedure.
• If there is a problem with either computer terminal's
connections, the STU 111/SECTEL message display will
show:
