Replace the power line cord with a known good one. If power
is restored, the power line cord was faulty. The
STU 111/SECTEL may be used as soon as power is restored.
Contact the Motorola Service Representative for instructions
regarding the faulty power cord.

If the original symptom remains, do not attempt to use the
terminal in secure mode. Contact the Motorola Service
Representative for instructions.
No Dial Tone

Check telephone line and handset cords. Ensure that all
connections are made properly.
If
the symptom remains,
proceed to step 2.

First, replace the telephone line cord, then the handset coiled
cord with known good ones to isolate a possible faulty cord.
If a dial tone is heard, the faulty cord has been found. Contact
the Motorola Service Representative for instructions
regarding the faulty cord.

If the symptom remains, connect a known good STU Ill/
SECTEL, or an ordinary telephone to the telephone line cord.
If a dial tone is heard, the previous STU 111/SECTEL was
faulty. Contact the Motorola Service Representative. If no dial
tone is heard, contact the telephone company.
Poor Quality Sound or Inability To Place Call

Check the telephone line and handset coiled cords for proper
connections.

Connect a known good STU 111/SECTEL to the telephone line
cord. If the sound improves, the STU 111/SECTEL was faulty;
contact the Motorola service representative.
If
the sound
does not improve; contact the telephone company.
The STU 111/SECTEL can perform online diagnostics of modem
performance, including signal quality, echo levels, and echo
locations for both successful and failed calls. Current modem data
is obtained by pressing
I
PRGM
I
while in the SECURE mode.
