The_
~S-232 communications port allows the System 8/10 switcher to be controlled by any standard RS-232
data t~rminal equipment that complies with all RS-232C specifications. When connected to an RS-232
~e;f.!1inal, the switcher employs bidirectional communications; making input changes when commanded
by'the terminal and informing the host terminal of input selections made by the front panel buttons or
hardwired remote control.
RS-232CONNECTOR
The input connector is a standard 25-pin D-Sub
receptacle that accepts a male cable plug. Pin alloca-
tions are lis~~d in the table at the right.

RS-232 PROTOCOL
The RS-232 protocol and baud rates are selectable by internal switch settings on the communications
board. Rotary switch SW3 is used to configure the baud rate, number of data bits and the parity.
The default protocol is 9600 baud, 8-bits, no parity, 1 stop bit. To select a different protocol, do this:

Turn switcher input power OFF. Disconnect power cord.
Remove six Phillips head machine screws located at both sides of the top cover; remove
top cover.
Hint
Grasp both sides of the top cover and pull sides outward to "bow" the
top slightly to release tension, then lift straight up away from switcher.
