REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap.
2. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position, and tilt the
mower on its side so the carburetor is up.
3. Use a pair of thick leather gloves to hold the blades with
your hand to prevent the blades from turning. First,
loosen the center 3/8-24 x 1 inch special bolt leaving the
blade holder still on the crankshaft, and then loosen the
two blade bolts. Using this method prevents the need to
hold the flywheel or flywheel nut when loosening the
blade holder bolt.
4. Remove the blade holder by pulling it off of the
crankshaft.
5. Remove the Woodruff key from the slot in the crankshaft.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Be sure the Woodruff key is installed in the slot closest to the
end of the crankshaft, and that it does not dislodge when
installing the blade holder. Failure to do so will result in blade
holder bolt failure that can cause the blade holder to come
off.
Be sure the blade bolt special washers are installed in the
proper direction
(P.
4-2).
Hand tighten the 3/8-24 x 1 inch special bolt and two blade
bolts. Use a pair of thick leather gloves to hold the blades
with your hand to prevent the blades from turning and then
tighten all three bolts to the specified torque.
