INSPECTION
Starter Switch
1. Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity
at the terminals with the switch in the indicated
position.

2. Replace the switch if necessary.
Fuse (3 Amp/30 Amp)
Inspect the fuse to see if it is blown.
If the 30A fuse blows frequently, inspect the starter
motor.
Battery
1. Charge the battery for 20-24 hours only
using the appropriate Honda battery charger. If
using a Honda battery float charger, the charger
may be left connected longer than 24 hours.
If the Honda battery charger is not accessible, use
a battery charger that charges at a maximum rate
of 0.3 amps.
2. Disconnect the charger and let the battery rest for
4 hours.
3. Battery voltage should be greater than 12.9 V.
Battery Load Test
1. Confirm that there is at least 12.9 V at the battery.
2. Disconnect the spark plug cap.
3. Attach a voltmeter to the starter terminals as
shown.
4. Crank the engine for 4 seconds and allow to rest
for 10 seconds. Repeat 3 times and confirm that
the battery voltage never drops below 9.0 V (when
the engine is turning over). If the starter pinion
never engages the flywheel, minimum voltage
should be 10.5 V.
5. If the battery drops below 9.0 V, recharge the
battery for 24 hours and retest.
6. If the battery voltage still drops below 9.0 V, replace the battery.
