4.8 Measurement of Small Signal by Pre-
amplifier
In the following example, continuous-wave signal (500MHz,
-80dBm) generated by signal generator (Agilent E4421B)
as signal to be measured.
Operation steps:
1. Connect equipment
Connect signal output of signal generator with RF input on
the front panel of spectrum analyzer.
2. Use pre-amplifier to measure small signal
1) Reset instrument
- Press PRESET key.
2) Set parameters
- Press [Center frequency] key, and input 500MHz;
- Press SPAN key;
- Press [Span] key, and input 10MHz;
- Press AMP key;
- Press [Reference level] key, and input -20dBm;
- Press [Pre-amplification On Off] key, set pre-
amplification on.
3. Read measurement result
Output signal tested by spectrum analyzer is shown as in
Figure 4-12:
