To run the ipconfig command from the operating system
1. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt to display the command
2. At the prompt, type ipconfig <with appropriate parameters>.
3. Press Enter.
4. Type Exit to close the Command Prompt window.

The ping command

The ping command sends an echo request to a specified host. Use this command to verify
network connectivity to the remote device.

Ping command syntax

The ping command uses the following syntax:
ping [-t] [-a] [-n count] [-l size] [-f] [-i TTL] [-v TOS] [-r count]
[-s count] [[-j host-list] | [-k host-list]] [-w timeout]

Displays full configuration information.
Releases the IP address for the specified adapter.
Renews the IP address for the specified adapter.

The Command Prompt window appears.
Example: ipconfig /all
The system runs the ipconfig utility.
Pings the specified host until interrupted.
Resolves addresses to host names.
Specifies the number of echo requests to send.
Sends buffer size.
Set Don't Fragment flag in packet.
