APM BIOS mode

The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) controls the basic
hardware operations in your computer. The APM BIOS
Mode option allows you to enable or disable
communications between the BIOS and the operating
system's advanced power management (APM) driver.
You must have APM BIOS mode enabled to use Rapid
Resume features. Disable this option only if you
experience problems, for example, if a program does
not work properly after your computer has resumed
from a suspend or returned to operational mode from
standby mode.

Rapid Resume

This option lets you enable or disable the Rapid Resume
feature. With this feature, you can set up your computer
to suspend, which saves your desktop when you turn off
your computer. For more information about the Rapid
Resume feature, see "Rapid Resume" on page 22.
Enable the Rapid Resume option to change the
following options:
Automatic Power Off
Initialize Adapter Cards

Automatic Power Off
If the Rapid Resume option is enabled, you can use the
Automatic Power Off feature to set up your computer to
turn itself off when you leave it on but unused for a
specified period of time. If you enable this feature, you
can specify up to 90 minutes for the delay between the
time you stop using your computer and the time it turns
itself off. For more information about the Automatic
Power Off feature, see "Automatic Power Off" on
page 23.
For information about how you can define which
devices your computer checks to determine whether
you are using your computer, see "Rapid Resume
advanced options" on page 43.
Initialize adapter cards
If the Rapid Resume option is enabled, you can use the
Initialize Adapter Cards option to indicate whether your
adapter cards will be restarted (initialized) when you
turn on your computer. When adapter cards are
initialized, the device drivers for the cards are reloaded.
This option might be required for adapter cards that do
not support power management.
