Table 4: Troubleshooting: Software problems
If the problem is:
You added hardware or installed new software
and you want to cancel Rapid Resume and
restart the computer.
Computer shuts off without press of the system
on/off button.
You set the computer to start when the phone
rings so you can receive a fax, but the computer
receives a regular phone call instead.
You click on the Suspend option in the Start
menu and your computer does not turn off.
Notes:
1. Periodically use the IBM Update Connector to look for updates for the software that came from the factory with your
computer. For information about the IBM Update Connector, see "Where to find more information" on page 6.
2. If any of these problems continue after taking the actions listed, see your online Aptiva Helper for information on running
diagnostics. If you need service, see the HelpWare book.
Here's what to do:
1. Turn on the monitor.
2. Turn on the system.
3. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete when you see the Rapid Resume screen. There
may be a slight delay before the computer restarts.
Attention! Any data that is not saved before you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete
will be lost.
1. In Rapid Resume Manager, check the Scheduler feature and the Automatic
Power Off option of the Rapid Resume feature to see if either of them is set
to turn off the computer.
2. Check to see if the Automatic Power Off feature is enabled in the Setup
Utility. For information about this Setup Utility option, see "Changing
Rapid Resume features configuration" on page 39.
1. Make sure that RingCentral is running when you suspend your computer
or let your computer enter Standby.
2. Either disable the Wake Up on Ring feature in the Rapid Resume Manager
or disable the Auto Answer feature in your fax software. Use Wake Up on
Ring only when you know you will have incoming fax communications.

on page 27.
Rapid Resume must be enabled for the Suspend option in the Start menu to
work properly. Use the Rapid Resume Manager to make sure Rapid Resume is
enabled. For instructions on starting the Rapid Resume Manager, see "Starting
the Rapid Resume Manager" on page 22. For instructions on enabling Rapid
Resume, see "Rapid Resume" on page 22.
