Updating the Setup Utility
When you add system board components, such as an
upgrade processor and system or cache memory
modules, the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) detects
the hardware changes and updates the Setup Utility
automatically. If you replace or remove components,
you might receive an online message that asks you to
verify that the BIOS made the correct configuration
changes.
To verify or correct configuration settings in the Setup
Utility, see "Using the Setup Utility" on page 31 for
information about how to start and update the Setup
Utility.
For a cache memory module
If you remove cache memory, the power-on self test
(POST) generates an error message. In the Setup Utility,
verify that the information the BIOS automatically
recorded is correct.
To view the cache memory settings in the Setup Utility,
select the following options from the Setup Utility's
Main Menu:
•
System Information
See "Viewing system information" on page 35 for
information about this option.
•
Advanced Options and then Cache Options
See "Configuring advanced options" on page 49 for
information about these options.
For system memory modules
If you remove system memory, the power-on self test
(POST) generates an error message. In the Setup Utility,
verify that the information the BIOS automatically
recorded is correct. Use this opportunity to verify that
any remaining memory modules are installed as
intended.
To view the system memory settings in the Setup Utility,
select the System Information option from the Setup
Utility's Main Menu. See "Viewing system information"
on page 35 for information about this option.
For the system battery
If you replace the system battery, you need to reset the
system date and time. You can perform this task from
the Windows 95 desktop or from the Setup Utility.
To reset the system date and time in the Setup Utility,
select the Date and Time option from the Setup Utility's
Main Menu. See "Setting the date and time" on page 49
for information about this option.
