Some of the options in the Setup Utility are strictly
informational, such as system and model information.
Other options let you control how your computer
operates. For example, you can use the Setup Utility to:
Create or change a power-on password.
Reduce energy consumption with Rapid Resume
features, such as Rapid Resume, Standby, or
Automatic Power Off.
Enable or disable the system memory test.
Enable or disable the virus detection provided with
your BIOS. (You cannot use the Setup Utility to turn
off the IBM AntiVirus program or any antivirus
protection that is provided with additional products.)

Starting the Setup Utility

Sometimes, when you get an error message, your
computer displays a message window with an error
code and a description of the problem. When this
occurs, you can press the Enter key to get the Setup
Utility Main Menu. Otherwise, to access the Setup
Utility, you must either start or restart your computer.
To start the Setup Utility when your computer is on,
follow these steps:
1.
Save all open files and close all software
programs.
2.
Click on the Start button on your Windows 95
desktop.
3.
Click on the Shut Down option.
4.
From the Shut Down Windows window, restart the
computer.
5.
When the following symbol appears at the top
right corner of the screen, press F1:
To start the Setup Utility when your computer is off,
follow these steps:
1.
Turn on your monitor.
2.
Turn on your system.
