Table 4: Troubleshooting: Software problems
If the problem is:
Your computer turns on automatically when
you dial out on a rotary or pulse telephone.
The phone rings and the computer turns on, but
a fax isn't received.
You change the Wake Up on Ring option in the
Setup Utility, but the change does not take
effect.
Snapshot is enabled (turned on), but the
computer does not Rapid Resume after a power
failure.
Notes:
1. Periodically use the IBM Update Connector to look for updates for the software that came from the factory with your
computer. For information about the IBM Update Connector, see "Where to find more information" on page 6.
2. If any of these problems continue after taking the actions listed, see your online Aptiva Helper for information on running
diagnostics. If you need service, see the HelpWare book.

Chapter 8: Diagnosing and recovering from problems
Here's what to do:
Either disable the Wake Up on Ring feature in the Rapid Resume Manager or
disable the Auto Answer feature in your fax software. Use Wake Up on Ring
only when you know you will have incoming fax communications. For
instructions on starting the Rapid Resume Manager, see "Starting the Rapid
Resume Manager" on page 22. For information on the Wake Up on Ring
feature, see "Wake Up on Ring" on page 27.
1. The fax software must be open and set to receive faxes. Refer to the
documentation that came with your fax software to make sure it is set up
to answer the phone.
2. Some people or fax machines may not let the phone ring long enough for
your computer to turn itself on and answer the phone. If you need to
receive critical phone calls or faxes, you may want to leave your computer
in Standby instead of suspending your computer or using Automatic
Power Off.
The Setup Utility's Wake Up on Ring option does not take effect in
Windows 95. Unless you have installed another operating system, such as
OS/2, use the Rapid Resume Manager to change the Wake Up on Ring
feature's setting.
So Snapshot can work properly after a power failure, make sure that:
1. Rapid Resume is enabled.
2. Standby is enabled.
3. Snapshot is enabled.
4. Your computer is in Standby when the power failure occurs.
For information on the Rapid Resume feature, see "Rapid Resume" on
page 22. For information on the Standby and Snapshot features, see "Standby
features" on page 24.
