CHAPTER 4. Module and Internal Option Card Installation
Cover Panels
Do not operate the iBG3026 with missing blank faceplates and cover panels.
These covers prevent exposure to hazardous voltages and currents inside the
chassis. They are important to maintaining proper air flow through the chassis.
They also prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) that might disrupt other
equipment.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Warning
To protect against ESD damage to the iBG3026 Modular Router and its
components:
Always use an ESD wrist or ankle strap with good skin contact. Remember,
ESD straps only protect against ESD charges on your body. Contact with
unstrapped bodies or your own clothing can cause ESD damage.
Connect the equipment end of the strap to an unfinished chassis surface.
Use care when seating or unseating modules or interface cards. Tighten the
captive installation screws to ensure a proper connection when inserting
modules or interface cards.
When putting a module or interface card down, always place it on an
antistatic surface or in a static shielding container with the component
board-side facing up.
General Maintenance Guidelines
Keep all iBG3026 modules and interface cards dry and dust-free, and stored in
electrical-equipment friendly environments.
36
Invisible laser radiation may be emitted from disconnected fibers or
connectors. Do not stare into beams or view directly with optical
instruments.
Laser radiation and EMI are present when the router cover panel is
open.
When handling iBG3026 components, wear grounding wrist straps to
avoid ESD damage to the card. Do not directly touch the backplane
with your hand or any metal tool, or you could shock yourself.
