REMOVING THE AC MAGNETO ROTOR

1. Remove:
• AC magneto cover
TIP
Loosen each bolt 1/4 of a turn at a time, in stag-
es and in a crisscross pattern. After all of the
bolts are fully loosened, remove them.
2. Remove:
• AC magneto rotor nut "1"
• Washer
TIP
Hold the AC magneto rotor "2" with the rotor
holding tool "3" while loosening the AC magneto
rotor nut.

3. Remove:
• AC magneto rotor "1"
(with the starter clutch)
• Woodruff key

NOTICE
To protect the end of the crankshaft, place an
appropriate sized socket between the fly-
wheel puller set center bolt and the crank-
shaft.
TIP
• Use the flywheel puller "2".
AC MAGNETO AND STARTER CLUTCH
• Make sure the flywheel puller is centered over
the AC magneto rotor.

REMOVING THE STARTER CLUTCH

1. Remove:
• Starter clutch bolts "1"
TIP
Hold the AC magneto rotor "2" with the rotor
holding tool "3" while removing the starter clutch
bolts.

CHECKING THE STARTER CLUTCH

1. Check:
• Starter clutch rollers
Damage/wear → Replace.
2. Check:
• Starter idle gear
• Starter wheel gear
Burrs/chips/roughness/wear → Replace the
defective part(s).
