Brake pedal operation

Soft or spongy feeling → Bleed the brake
system.
Refer to "BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC
BRAKE SYSTEM" on page 3-14.

REMOVING THE REAR BRAKE MASTER
CYLINDER
1. Remove:
Union bolt "1"

Copper washers "2"
G
Brake hose "3"
G

TIP
To collect any remaining brake fluid, place a
container under the master cylinder and the end
of the brake hose.
2. Disconnect:
Brake fluid reservoir hose
G
3. Remove:
Right footrest assembly
G
4. Remove:
Cotter pin (from the brake pedal link)
G
5. Remove:
Rear brake master cylinder
G
6. Remove:
Circlip (from the rear brake master cylinder)
G
Master cylinder kit
G

CHECKING THE REAR BRAKE MASTER
CYLINDER
1. Check:
Brake master cylinder "1"

Damage/scratches/wear → Replace.
Brake fluid delivery passages
G
(brake master cylinder body)
Obstruction → Blow out with compressed air.
2. Check:
Brake master cylinder kit "1"
G
Damage/scratches/wear → Replace.

3. Check:
Brake fluid reservoir "1"

Cracks/damage → Replace.
Brake fluid reservoir diaphragm "2"
G
Cracks/damage → Replace.
4. Check:
Brake hoses
G
Cracks/damage/wear → Replace.

with clean or new brake fluid.
