To perform a directory search:
If your phone is idle, press the

button for the desired directory (IC DIRECTORY, OUTSIDE DIR, or FEATURE
DIR).
If placing a call, choose between
Enter letters or numbers (up to 10 characters) as described below:

Remain in alphanumeric mode (Message button lit): Press the dialpad but-
tons to enter the desired characters. (Note that letters correspond to the letters
printed on dialpad buttons 2-9.) The number of times a button is pressed
determines which character is entered. For example, 77776444844 would
enter "SMITH." When adjoining characters are located under the same but-
ton, press

twice to leave a space. Press

Change to numeric mode (Message button unlit): Press the dialpad buttons to
enter an extension number. Press
