Starting Up

Starting Up
The KISS-Stor 0/5 is delivered with installed firmware and installed RAID level
jumper corresponding the ordered RAID level configuration.
The KISS-Stor 0/5 is designed to be installed into a computer system.
The array initialization starts automatically once the computer with installed KISS-
Stor 0/5, is powered-up. The system will detect the presence of
KISS-Stor 0/5. The first step performed by the KISS-Stor 0/5 during the
initialization process is to check the status of the installed SATA hard drives.
Therefore, in order to initialize the corresponding RAID array for your system,
connect successively the hard disks to the RAID subsystem. This procedure is to
be performed in the direction "from above downward".
Please observe the next subsections.

Prerequisite

The KISS-Stor 0/5 Raid subsystem must be installed in a workable computer as
described in the "Installing the KISS-Stor 0/5" chapter.
Three SATA hard disks (not included) must be installed into the KISS-Stor 0/5
corresponding to the description in the "SATA Drive Physical Installation
Procedure" and "Drives Cage Physical Assembling Procedure" chapter. Install
only empty hard drives for RAID 0 and RAID 5 array initialization.
Before starting the array initialization process (before powering-up the computer)
unlock the drive carriers.

Initializing the Array

Follow these steps in order to initialize a RAID 0 or RAID 5 array (depending on
the ordered KISS-Stor 0/5 configuration) on your system:
1. Attach the computer to a corresponding power source.
2. Ensure that the drive carrier locks are unlocked.
3. Power-up the system. The red disk activity LED indicators are on (disk drive is
not present).
