REAR PIVOTS

The pivot assembly is a simple mechanism that allows the rear
swing arm to move up and down in combination with a rear suspen-
sion unit. Size, shape and components will vary between models;
however, operating principles are the same. The pivot point consists
of a split bushing set, held in place by a bolt that rotates inside of
fixed bushings in the frame. The pivot point should be kept clean
and free of grime, and should be disassembled and regreased at
least once a season. Please note that on some models the driver
side crank arm must be removed from the spindle before attempt-
ing to work on the pivot. After removing the fixing bolt, the bushings
may need to be tapped out using a drift, punch or other blunt ended
tool. After disassembly and cleaning, the parts should be lightly
coated with a lithium-based grease. Reassemble the pivot bushing
assembly and tighten the fixing bolt securely.
NOTE: Never use WD-40 or similar products to grease or lubri-
cate components. It is a degrease that will not provide required
lubrication and has a tendency to attract dust.
