(7) If required, remove rotor from hub by pulling it
straight off wheel mounting studs (Fig. 26).

REMOVAL - FRONT CALIPER (EXPORT)
(1) Using a brake pedal holding tool, depress brake
pedal past its first 1 inch of travel and secure in this
position. This will isolate the master cylinder reser-
voir from the brake hydraulic system, not allowing
the brake fluid to drain out of the reservoir.
(2) Raise vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION &
MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCE-
DURE)
(3) Remove front wheel and tire assembly from
vehicle.
(4) Remove the banjo bolt connecting the brake
flex hose to the caliper. There will be two washers
(one on each side of the flex hose fitting) that will
come off at the same time.
(5) Remove the two caliper guide pin bolts (Fig.
24).
(6) Remove
caliper
knuckle. Proceed by first rotating top of caliper away
from steering knuckle and then lifting caliper off bot-
tom machined abutment on steering knuckle (Fig.
25).
(7) If required, remove rotor from hub by pulling it
straight off wheel mounting studs (Fig. 26).

DISASSEMBLY - CALIPER GUIDE PIN
BUSHINGS
Before disassembling the brake caliper, clean and
inspect it. Refer to CLEANING or INSPECTION in
this section.
(1) With one hand, push the guide pin bushing
sleeve towards the back of the caliper, and at the
same time, pull the sleeve out the back of the caliper
and bushing (Fig. 27).

(2) Using your fingers, collapse one side of the rub-
ber guide pin bushing. Pull the guide pin bushing out
the other side of the brake caliper mounting boss
(Fig. 28).

WARNING: UNDER NO CONDITION SHOULD HIGH
PRESSURE AIR EVER BE USED TO REMOVE A PIS-
TON FROM A CALIPER BORE. PERSONAL INJURY
COULD RESULT FROM SUCH A PRACTICE.
NOTE: Before disassembling the brake caliper,
clean and inspect it. Refer to CLEANING AND
INSPECTION in this section.
