Before You Begin

CHASSIS AND
COMPONENTS
This chapter describes how to take apart and reassemble the
chassis and the major components.
♦
Be sure to do each procedure in the correct order.
♦
Set up an equipment log to record the computer's
model and serial numbers, all installed options, and
other information about the computer. If you need this
information, it will be easier to consult the log than to
open up and examine the computer.
♦
Observe antistatic precautions at all times whenever any
cover is removed and while handling any components.
◊ Information and guidance on antistatic precautions
can be found in the appendix at the rear of this
handbook.
♦
You will need a Phillips (#2 bit) and a flatblade
screwdriver.
♦
Turn the computer power off by pressing the power
control button.
♦
Unplug the AC power cord from the back of the
chassis.
♦
Turn off and disconnect all peripheral devices
connected to the computer, e.g. printer or modem.
