How to Reload the Switch

Reloading the Switch without Service Interruption

The Fast Reset feature has been introduced to the L3 application software. Fast Reset allows end
users to upgrade their device without affecting any routing and switching services during the
process. This means that the user can upgrade the device without suffering from any network
traffic down time.
The switch memory keeps track of the configuration changes that the user has made with regards to
the factory default configuration during runtime. The user can store these changes on the switch
NVRAM by saving the running configuration with the write memory command or the reload
save command as described later on. If the user reboots the device without saving the running
configuration, the changes are lost and the switch configuration returns to the factory default
values.
The start-up configuration is maintained in a file that contains the saved configuration. After the
switch is rebooted, only the factory defaults and the configuration in the start-up configuration file
will be restored.

Reloading the Switch

Table 14
lists the reload command.
The user can use the following operations:
Reload the device, with or without saving the current configuration.
Reload factory-default configuration settings.
Reload the device without interrupting service.

Command
reload
Normal Switch Reboot
The reload command, in Privileged (Enable) mode, reloads the device.
The command can be used with or without any one of the following keywords:
save – saves the current configuration to the NVRAM, resets the interface modules and reboots
the device.
no-save – closes down and reboots the device without saving the current configuration to the
NVRAM.
to-defaults – resets the device to its factory-default configuration and reboots it.
If no keyword is provided, the command is equivalent the reload save command. When the user
uses the reload command, the software requests confirmation before it closes down.
