CLI Command Syntax Conventions

The syntax of CLI command lines is represented by the following general format:
device-name>keyword(s) [argument(s)] ... [keyword(s)] [argument(s)]
or
device-name[(config ...)]#keyword(s) [argument(s)] ... [keyword(s)]
[argument(s)]
where:
The angle bracket (>) is the CLI prompt symbol in View mode.
The pound symbol (#) is the CLI prompt symbol in all other modes.
The left part, up to and including the prompt symbol represents the command prompt displayed
by the computer. In this part:
o The optional expression "(config ...)"– including the parentheses – appears on the

ENTER key again for next possible command.
Delete the character that precedes the cursor.
Move to the beginning of the line.
Move backward one character.
Interrupt the current input and move to the next line.
Move back one node.
Move to the end of the line.
Move forward one character.
Delete the character that precedes the cursor.
Kill (delete all characters) to the end of the line.
Move down to the next line in the history buffer.
Move up to the previous line in the history buffer.
Delete the line.
Erase the last word.
Return to Enable mode.
Move back one word.
Forward kill word.
Move forward one word.
Stop ping from the switch (for more information regarding the ping
command see chapter "Switch Administration").
Complete the current command line.
