Connecting to the Console Port

In order to begin setup, the user must connect the Console to the Console Port. The example below
shows how to connect a workstation to the console port using serial cable DB9-RJ45.

Figure 2: Connect the workstation to the console port using a standard null modem

To connect the cable, perform the following steps:
1.
Attach the female connector on the cable to the male connector on the console port of the
device.
2.
Connect the other end of the cable to one of the serial ports (also known as a COM port) on the
workstation.
3.
Open the terminal emulation software and configure the COM port settings to which the user
has connected the cable. The settings should be set to match the default settings for the device,
which are:
• 9600 bps
• 8 data bits
• 1 stop bit
• No parity
• No flow control
• 25 lines and 80 columns window size.

Logging on as a Default User

When the user manages a device using the Web interface or the Command Line Interface (CLI),
the user needs to log on.
Press the Enter. If the user has logged on correctly, the device-name> prompt is displayed.
Begin the configuration process.

Setting up IP Information via Command Line Interface

The next step is to set up the device with IP information using CLI.
After the device detects a connection to its console port, the command line interface login
sequence begins. If the login prompt does not begin immediately, press Enter a few times until
it starts.
Follow the prompts and enter all the required information.
