8.4 IBM Platform LSF family
As data centers increase in size and complexity, it becomes more difficult to
manage workloads, scale applications, and ensure that the use of hardware and
other resources, such as, software licenses, is optimal. Users need the ability to
use applications and clusters anywhere and automate their data flows.
Administrators must monitor cluster resources and workloads, manage software
licenses, identify bottlenecks, monitor service-level agreements (SLAs), and plan
capacity. The IBM Platform LSF software family helps address all of these issues.
IBM Platform LSF is a powerful workload management platform for demanding,
distributed mission-critical HPC environments. It provides a comprehensive set of
intelligent, policy-driven scheduling features so that you can use all of your
compute infrastructure resources and help ensure optimal application
performance.
IBM Platform LSF includes the following features:
Manages batch workloads
Allows a distributed compute network to function as a large supercomputer by
matching supply with demand
Intelligently distributes the right jobs to the right resources, which optimizes
resource usage and minimizes waste
Makes multiple computing resources appear to users as a single system
image
Load-balances across shared computing resources
The IBM Platform LSF family comprises the following product editions:
IBM Platform LSF Express Edition
Ideal for single-cluster environments and optimized for simple workloads and
user grouping structures.
IBM Platform LSF Standard Edition
Designed for grid environments and optimized for complex workloads and
user grouping structures.
IBM Platform LSF Advanced Edition
Designed to support extreme scalability and throughput.
Optional add-ons extend Platform LSF to provide a complete set of workload
management capabilities; all are designed to work together to address
high-performance computing needs.
