Valve Seat Inspection/Refacing - Honda 1984 Shadow VT700C Manual

CYLINDER HEAD/VALVE
Ream the new valve guides after installation.
NOTE-
Use cutting oil on the reamer during this
operat ion.
It is important that the reamer always be
rotated in the same direction when it is
inserted or removed.
Clean the head thorough ly after reaming the val . . . . e
guides.
VALVE SEAT INSPECTIDN/REFACING
Clean all intake and exhaust valves thorough ly to
remove carbon deposits.
Apply a light coating of Prussian Blue to each valve
seat. Lap each valve and seat using a rubber hose or
other hand ·lapping tooL
Remove and inspect each valve.

it contacts the
seat unevenly. replace the valve.
Inspect the width of each valve seat.
STANDARD: 1.1 - 1.3 mm (0.04- 0.05
in)
SERVICE LIMIT: 2.0
mm
(0.08
in)
If the seat is too wide, too narrow or has low spots,
the seat must be ground.
