Service and Maintenance
The best time to check the engine
oil level is when the oil is warm:
1. The vehicle should be on level
ground.
2. Stop the engine and wait a
few minutes for the oil to
drain back into the oil pan.
3. If your vehicle is a CTS-V
model, you must remove the
engine cover before you can
access the fill cap.
See "Engine Cover" earlier in
this section.
4. Remove the dipstick and wipe
it clean.
5. Reinsert the dipstick all the
way until it is firmly seated.
6. Remove the dipstick again and
check the oil level.
Keep the dipstick pointed
down to get an accurate
reading.

The oil level should be in the oper-
ating range
of the dipstick.
If the oil level is in the cross-
hatched area
near the end of
the dipstick, add at least one liter
of engine oil. Avoid over-filling the
engine since this may cause
engine damage.
NOTICE
Don't add too much oil. If your
engine has so much oil that the
oil level is above the proper
operating range and in the
upper cross-hatched area, your
engine could be damaged.
Reinstall the dipstick.
