Immobilizer (Remote
Keyless Entry System)
If your vehicle has a removable
ignition key, the ignition key has a
transponder imbedded in it. The
transponder uses a radio
frequency that matches a decoder
in your vehicle.
The system is armed when the key
is removed from the ignition.
The system is disarmed when the
ignition is turned on.
Only the correct key will start the
vehicle.
If a damaged or wrong key has
been used, the system will not
allow the engine to start. If the
engine does not start and the
Security System Light comes on,
the key may have a damaged
transponder. Turn the ignition off
and try again. If the engine still
does not start and the key appears
to be undamaged, try another
ignition key. You may also want to
check the fuse. If the engine still
does not start, have the vehicle
serviced. If the engine does start,
the first key may be faulty. See
your dealer to have a new key
made.
Any new key must be
programmed before it will start
your vehicle.
Up to ten keys can be
programmed for your vehicle.
Section 3
Programming Additional Keys
You can program up to eight addi-
tional keys with the two original
keys present. To program an addi-
tional key:
1. Verify that the new key has
stamped on it.
2. Start the engine using one of
the previously programmed
keys.
If the engine does not start,
see your dealer for service.
3. Turn off the ignition and
remove the key.
