4.11 RS232 EXT Modem Card

An RS232 External Modem Card can be optionally installed on the RX1000. This
card provides all of the handshaking signals required to control an external modem
via a female DB9 connector. This card can be populated into Slot 2 (bottom) of the
RX1000. The pinout of the card is given in Table 15.

NOTE that although a DB9 RS232 DTE connector is ordinarily male, the female
connector has been used here for reasons of durability – there are no pins to bend. A
commonly available "male-to-male" DB9 adaptor (not a null-modem) may be used to
adapt this connection to a standard, "straight-through" RS232 cable.
