4.12 Cellular Modems

The RX1000 series of products can optionally be equipped with one of two cellular
modem cards, for operation on either GSM or CDMA networks. One cellular modem
card may be installed in either slot 5 or slot 6 of the unit. Two 50 Ω SMA antenna
connectors are located on the front plate of each modem.
4.12.1 EVDO (CDMA) Cellular Modem Card
The EVDO dual band card option is currently offered for use on Verizon‟s cellular
network. It is available as an option in either Slot 5 or Slot 6 of the RuggedRouter.
The radio supports IS-95A, 1xRTT, 1xEVDO Rev0, 1xEVDO RevA and will
automatically select the fastest mode available when a data call is made. Main
antenna and Receive Diversity antenna connections are made to the 50 Ω SMA
connectors located on either side of the front faceplate. The modem may be
installed in slot 5 or slot 6 of the router. For antenna placement, please refer to the
faceplate diagram (see Figure 36).

Characteristics of the radio antenna requirements are given in Table 17. Ensure that
the maximum antenna gain is not exceeded for safe operation of the device.
