Use the serial connection to perform basic configuration tasks, including assigning an IP address and
network mask to the system. This information is required to manage the system using the CLI through
Telnet or the Brocade Network Advisor.

Installation precautions

Follow all precautions when installing a device.

General precautions

DANGER
All fiber-optic interfaces use Class 1 lasers.
CAUTION
Do not install the device in an environment where the operating ambient temperature might
exceed 40 ο C (104 ο F).
CAUTION
Make sure the airflow around the front, sides, and back of the device is not restricted.

Installation tasks
Ensure that the physical environment that will host the
device has the proper cabling and ventilation.
Unpack the device and all included accessories,
Install the device on a desktop, or in an equipment
rack.
Once the device is installed, plug the device into a
nearby power source that adheres to the regulatory
requirements outlined in this manual.
