Belt tensioners control indicator
The seat belt tensioners are monitored
electronic ally together with the airbag s,
and their op erational read iness show n by
the red control indicator v in the
instrument panel.
When the ig nition is sw itched on, the
control indicator flashes several times then
exting uishes. If it does not flash, stays lit,
illuminates or flashes whilst driving, there is
a fault with the belt tensioners or in the
airbag sy stems. The systems m ig ht not
therefore be triggered in the event of an
accident (see also pa ge 56).

Warning
Have the cause of the fault remedied by
a workshop.
The system's integ ra ted self-diagnostics
allow s faults to be quickly remedied.
Important
z Accessories not released for your v ehicle
type and other ob jects m ust not be fix ed
or placed within the a ction z one of the
belt tensioners, as they m ay result in
injury if the belt tensioners are triggered.
z Do not mak e any modifications to the
components of the belt tensioners, as
this may result in unintended actuation
of the b elt tensioners, rendering the
vehicle unroadworthy and ca using
serious personal injury.

Imp roper handling (e. g. removal or
installation) can activ ate the belt
tensioners – risk of injury .
Seats, interior
z The belt tensioner and airbag sy stem
control electronics can be found in the
centre console area. In order to av oid
malfunctions, do not store mag netic
objects in this a rea.
z When using the rear sea ts, ensure that
the front seat belt components are not
damaged by shoes or other objects.
Avoid dirt getting in the retractors.
z The belt tensioners only actuate once,
ind ic ated b y continuous illum ina tion of
control indicator v in the instrument
panel. Deployed belt tensioners must be
replaced by a workshop.
z When disp osing of the v ehicle, observe
the app lica ble safety regulations. Take
the vehicle to a recy cling company for
disposal.
