Cooling switches off autom atically at low
outside tem peratures.
Engine power and performance may be
affected when the system is on.
If the fan is switched off, the air
conditioning system will not operate.
Once activated, the air conditioning
sy stem is operated via the norm al heating
and ventilation controls.
Even with air conditioning on, if
temperature rotary knob is set to wa rm , the
vehicle will still prod uce warm air in the
passenger compa rtm ent.
To improve efficiency of the air
conditioning, alwa ys close the w indows,
to prevent chilled a ir from escaping.
Switching on the a ir conditioning w ill a ssist
in wind screen demisting. In very hot
temperatures, before starting the engine,
allow hot air to esca pe from the vehicle by
op ening the w indows and sun roof 3.
When the air conditioning sy stem is
switched on, at least one of the adjusta ble
O n
centre or side air vents m ust be open, so
O ff
that the evaporator does not ice up due to
lack of air m ov ement.
Driv ing in stop-and-go traffic m ay reduce
the effectiveness of the a ir cond itioning
sy stem.
Using the air conditioning system when
driving up long hills or in heavy tra ffic
can cause eng ine overheating. If engine
coolant temperature warning control
indica tor W illum ina tes in instrument
panel, turn off air conditioning and allow
engine to id le for a few minutes (see
page 71).

position M or L.

area for cooling.
