198 Self-help, vehicle care
The b ra ke fluid level in the reservoir must
not be higher than the MAX mark or lower
than the MI N m ark.
Do not overfill the brake fluid reservoir, a s
this may c ause an engine fire due to fluid
burning; risk of injury and dama ge to the
vehic le.
Use of some brake fluid s could c ause
dam age or im pair braking effectiveness.
Stay well informed. We recomm end that
you use O pel-a pproved hig h performance
brake fluid.
Ex treme cleanliness is important, sinc e
brake fluid contamination can lead to
brake system malfunctions.
If brak e fluid lev el is too low, brak e system
control indica tor 4 illuminates in the
instrument panel - see p age 70.
After correcting the brake fluid lev el, ha ve
the c ause of the loss remedied by a
workshop.
Brake fluid change
As brak e fluid is hygroscopic, it ab sorbs
water. Vapour bubbles which impair the
braking effect may occur during braking.
The fluid change intervals specified in the
cha pter " Servic e, m aintenance" on
page 207 must therefore be ob serv ed.

as reg ards disposal of brake fluid and
can thus help to protect the environment

The clutch fluid does not require any
add itional maintenance than that deta iled
in the cha pter " Servic e, m aintenance" on
pag e 207.
If the fluid in the reservoir falls below the
MI N ma rk , consult a workshop.
