Cont rolling exha ust em ission
Through d esign-related mea sures,
primarily in the fuel injec tion and ig nition
systems (in combination with the cataly tic
converter), the p roportion of noxious
materials in the ex haust, such as carbon
monoxide (CO ), hydrocarbons (CH) and
nitrog en oxides (N O ), is reduced to a
x
minimum.
Control indica tor for exhaust emissions
Control indica tor Z illuminates for a few
second s w hen the ignition is switched on.
If it i lluminates when the engine is running,
there is a fa ult in the em ission control
sy stem or with the d iesel pa rticle filter 3 .
The permitted emission values may b e
exc eeded. Consult a workshop.
Flashing with the engine running indicates
a fault that may damage the catalytic
conv erter. The vehicle's electronic system
will switch to an emergency running
prog ra m so you may continue to drive
without causing dama ge, by slowing d ow n
until the fla shing stop s and the control
indica tor is steadily lit. C onsult a workshop
immed iately.
Driving and o peration
C ontrol indicator for engine electronics
C ontrol indicator 3 illum ina tes for a few
seconds when the ignition is switched on.
If it illuminates when the eng ine is running,
there is a fault in the engine electronics.
The electronics switch to the emergency
running prog ra m, fuel consumption may
increa se and the driv eability of the vehicle
ma y be affected.
In some cases, the fa ult c an be eliminated
by sw itc hing the engine off and back on
aga in. If the c ontrol indicator illumina tes
aga in when the engine is running , hav e the
cause of the fault eliminated by a
workshop.
