The g round clearance, ramp a ngle, angle
of approach and depa rture and wading
depth need to be considered, especially in
hilly conditions and when wading, to
prevent the vehicle becom ing stuck and
possibly damag ed.

Dr iving through wat er
Do not exceed the ma ximum wa ding
depth.
Check the depth of water: choose the
low est entry a nd dep arture angles before
entering.
Mainta in a steady engine speed , to help
prevent water from entering the ex ha ust
sy stem, but do not ex ceed 5 km/h (3 mph),
to avoid splashing the water.
Driv e with the flow wherever p ossible, not
against it. If you have to drive against the
flow, try to drive at a n angle to it, so that
the lea ding corner of the v ehicle will help
deflec t water from the engine
compartment.
Av oid splashing the water - if the ignition
sy stem becomes wet, the engine may stall.
Driving and o peration
Avoid wa ter entering the air inta ke system .

Warnin g
If water enters the air inta ke system ,
engine seizure with severe costly dama ge
may result.
Test the brakes after lea ving the wa ter -
wet brakes are less effective tha n d ry ones.
Perform the serv ice operations for wa ding ,
involving checks for water c ontamination,
at the ea rliest op portunity.
